It's basically @
Velocipede Rider
's fault that I installed #
vivaldibrowser
on my desktop to set my mobile search engine to Kagi. Now I'm tempted to use it as my main browser for some time... I'm sure with @
Velocipede Rider
on the team it will soon get #
gemini
, #
gopher
and #
finger
support, right? RIGHT? ;)

yes, there is. It's basically a heavily modified Chromium.

I see, but I am not very fond of Chromium, I prefer Mozilla 😉

Honestly, I prefer neither. Nowadays you can decide between derivatives of the browser made by Google or the browser mostly paid for by Google. I'd love to use a browser that doesn't depend on Google and still mostly works for the modern web. As far as I know there is no such thing... correct me if I'm wrong.

..as far as I have read somewhere, probably at Matthias Schüssler's blog, Mozilla i.e. Firefox is not based on Gougle's chrome. I will check it.

no it is not but Mozilla receives a huge chunk of its funding from Google, so its development is indirectly paid for by Google. So this leaves us with two separate browsers, both paid for by Google.

not if you want to use the JS based web. The only option that's mostly independent from Google is Safari - which is not an option on Linux anyway.

I finally got my mostly empty #
gemini
capsule on #
sdf
working on gemini://sdf.org/beni/ and wrote #
python
script to generate some html on
#^
http://beni.sdf.org
. The next steps are to run my own gemini server and add some CSS to the html export. It's all still very rough around the edges...

Great, the moment I want to spend some more time with #
gemini
and start setting something up on #
SDF
, their gemini instance (or whatever you call a gemini server) goes down...

@navigium
with the new hpr setup we should be able to gemeni the site easily enough. A few
@hpr
shows on your journey would be great.

A the moment my journy abruptly stopped with SDFs gemini capsule being down... but I'll keep this in the back of my mind. As you know, I always need a cohost.... 🫣

I discovered #
gemini
again and now I'm considering migrating my outdated #
gopher
space to gemini.... Somehow I'm attracted to doing useless stuff and acquiring useless skills....

I found talk of #
gemini
again a couple of days ago when someone was asking about the #
nex
protocol, which is even simpler than gemini. That discussion popped up a few .gmi links so load them into Emacs using the elpher package to browse.
Elpher is very functional but the Lagrange gemini browser is a nicer UI so I updated that too. I'd forgotten how tranquil browsing gemini is. It does slow one down ...

Morse code is the only way to operate a hf station on a mountain top in complete silence.... which of course doesn't explain why you'd want to operate a radio on a peak in the first place. As I said: doing useless stuff..

ja, ist noch da, aber #
gemini
ist nur damit verwandt. Gopher war glaubs sowas wie die Vorlage, welche aber mit TLS, UTF-8 und einer anderen Markupsprache angereichert wurde....

Eigentlich gibts ja ganz viele langlebige Sachen in der IT.... DNS, TCP/IP, Emacs, Vi, Unix, viele noch relevante RFCs... alles noch da. Leider auch IPv4 und die Windows Registry. Zum Glück kann ich das zweite weitgehend ignorieren. 😉

Same with me: Windows generell kann ich schon lange ignorieren, habe zuhause nur noch Linux, und auf dem FP4 halt notgedrungen Android, aber die Verson der e.foundation 😉
